Bioinformatics is the field that combines (molecular) biology with computational power. For KeyGene this combined field is an essential part in our technology, services and products. Especially in the last decade, we have produced genetic and genomic data that required combined computational power and algorithmic methods. We have seen, and still see, a strong change in time consumption of the total analysis pipeline. Most of the effort is becoming a bioinformatics effort.
For this purpose KeyGene has a dedicated Bioinformatics group, performing genome research, (genetic) breeding tool development, gene discovery research, biometric analysis and software developments for clients. We make use, maintain and develop our own bioinformatics platform to enable all the activities. We are at the forefront of new technology implementation (e.g. next generation sequencing) and have the experience to transform research activities to reliable and high quality products.

Much of the work done is in close collaboration with our clients and partners of which disclosure is restricted to them. Some of our technology is packaged in commercial available software. Other KeyGene Bioinformatics tools, part of our Bioinformatics platform, are available under special conditions within broader partnerships. Sometimes as is, sometimes specially modified for partner needs.
Furthermore KeyGene Bioinformatics provides direct services, development and consultancy. It’s not all research. Some questions are just the computational performance or assistance in defining requirements. Some are specific implementation issues.
