KeyGene has broad experience in working with different genetic systems, plants, animals, micro-organisms. The vast amount of genetic data is stored in databases and has led to the accumulation of powerful know-how in the form of researchers themselves. KeyGene uses these rich sources of data and know-how in its contract research projects.
KeyGene enabling technologies
AFLP®, SNPwAve ®, SFP, CROPS™, Keypoint™
An important milestone in KeyGene’s history was the invention and development of the AFLP® technology in the early 1990’s. The patented AFLP technology has since become a widely used genetic fingerprinting technology. KeyGene’s experience in the application of the AFLP® technology and the high quality of its work has been an important basis for its success. With access to more genome sequence information new technologies were developed for high throughput genotyping, like the Single Feature Polymorphism (SFP) technology and the CRoPS™ (Complexity Reduction of Polymorphic Sequences). For diagnostic purposes the multiplexed SNPWave® technology was developed that allows for the simultaneous detection of 10 to 90 SNPs in one PCR reaction. Finally technologies for mutation screening have been developed of which KeyPoint™ is directed to the efficient detection of point mutations in target genes.
Genetic and physical mapping, gene expression profiling, bio-informatics
Other important capabilities of KeyGene include genetic and physical mapping of genomes, cDNA-AFLP based gene expression profiling, and the development of bio-informatics applications used for the analysis, interpretation and management of experimental data.
Plants, animals and micro-organisms
KeyGene’s technological capabilities are relevant for companies and research groups that are interested in the genetic research of plants, animals and micro-organisms. KeyGene has acquired considerable experience in all these fields and worked for and with leading companies and institutes in the respective industries.
